This lists the best TAS times.
Rules
- You must use the NTSC-U ROM.
- The special triple jump is not allowed.
SM64.org TAS Timing
We time by VIs. The VI counter goes up by unstable increments - that's because the VIs represent real time, while "frames" represent the amount of times the screen is repainted and input processed. Judging time from number of frames is not accurate: Lag will affect VIs, but not frames. Mupen 64 has less lag than the console, but still some.
The time in seconds is ($end - $start) / 60. Find the numbers by looking at the VI counter in the Mupen 64 status bar.
For single star runs:
$start is the first screen that is not entirely white.

$end is the screen where Mario turns towards the camera to start the celebration after collecting the star.

Exception: Cavern Of The Metal Cap
$start is the first frame Mario walks.
$end is the screen where Mario turns towards the camera to start the celebration after collecting the star.
For Bowser courses (no star):
$start is the the first screen you can see the course.
$end is the first all-black screen after entering the pipe.
For fastest time to complete KTQ Footrace, KTQ Rematch and PSS:
This applies to the separate records for doing only the races, and is not related to stars.
We go by the in-game timer. For KTQ's races, you must talk to KTQ within his radius.
For full game runs:
We go by the TASVideos timing, which uses the length of the movie file, timed by VIs.
